A more serious turn of events

Visiting Nathan on a Saturday evening I stayed for dinner and the night as I would quite often do. After dinner we ended up browsing his music collection. Nathan was quieter than usual; apparently something was on his mind. With a serious look in his eyes he suddenly asked; “Kevin, will you be my boyfriend?” Startled I knocked over his glass of wine all over the computerdesk. That was certainly unexpected. Nobody ever actually asked me this question since primary school.

Quickly we moved the keyboard from the growing puddle of red wine. Stains were all over the wallpaper and it was dripping down onto the carpet. Mopping up what we could I gathered my thoughts and replied “uhm, let me think about that”. Apparently this was very serious to Nathan and I didn’t want to say anything rash. Though he was trying to hide it his disappointment was obvious. He could’ve asked me to leave right there and then but despite my answer he didn’t. The rest of the evening passed quite uneventful and we headed for bed early. No sex that night..

The next day at work I had the opportunity to think it over. On Sundays I was the only person working in the entire warehouse for most of the day and having done the job for a few years I was able to do it on automatic pilot. The thought of being official boyfriends didn’t really occur to me up till now. Certainly Nathan was special to me and every time I looked forward to be with him. The more I thought about it the more I realized I was a fool for not immediately saying yes. Here’s a cute boy who’s sweet and obviously cares a lot about me. I made my decision and suddenly hated being trapped at work with no opportunity to tell him. What if he changed his mind?

No time to waste, I rushed home as soon as possible, hoping he’d be online. In retrospect I could’ve called but I didn’t really know how to explain my decision. Coming home I throwed my bag in a corner and immediately logged in invisible. I really didn’t want to be bothered by anyone else with their nonsense right now. Thank god, he was online. Not wasting much time I apologized and told him in a few lines I’d love to be his boyfriend. Incredulous Nathan didn’t really believe me at first. Perhaps he thought I was just saying it to keep him around? But I managed to convince him, I really wanted to be his boyfriend. Next time we saw eachother I was not just happy to see Nathan but more even so to be with my boyfriend..
